Environmental Day at the Capital 2024

Environmental Day at the Capital 2024

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, Tó Nizhóní Ání staff traveled to the Arizona State Capital to participate in Environmental Day at the Capital 2024 hosted by the Sierra Club Grand Canyon Chapter. The year, the theme was Save Water, Save Life, and we heard from various speakers advocating from around the state on water, such as our very own Nicole Horseherder and Adrian Herder, along with Leona Morgan of Haul No! and Vernon Masayesva of Black Mesa Trust to name a few.

“It’s important to know and understand the history of where this cheap power and electricity came from that it came at the cost of the Indigenous people of northeast Arizona so many decades ago.

Today, that power plant and that coal mine doesn’t exist anymore; however, we continue to fight for the proper reclamation of our lands and the proper reclamation and recovery of our water…”

– Nicole Horseherder, Tó Nizhóní Ání
